Metropolitan Open Returns to St. Albans This Week

GROUPINGS & STARTING TIMES

After a 2-year hiatus and visit to Lake Forest Country Club, the Metropolitan Open Championship returns to the Country Club of St. Albans where it was home for 14 years.  The James S. Manion Trophy is on the line along with a $25,000 pay day for the winner.

A field of 150, 106 professionals and 44 amateurs, will start play on Wednesday, May 18 on the Lewis & Clark Course at St. Albans.  The last two champions at Lake Forest, Seth Fair (2020, Pittsboro, IN) and Erik Edwards (2021, Louisville, KY) are in the field along with Skip Berkmeyer who won the inaugural Open back in 2006 are in the field this week. Edwards will attempt to be the first back-to-back winner since Shawn Jasper accomplished that feat in 2010-11.

The professional field is highlighted by several players who compete regularly on the Korn Ferry and PGA Tour Latinoamerica.  Willie Mack III is in the field and has seen action on the PGA Tour the last couple years as well.  Luke Schniederjans, a standout at Georgia Tech, will make his first appearance in the Metropolitan Open.  Ryan Sullivan, Tim Oneal and Tommy Schaff have made St. Louis a regular stop the last several years and are back.

On the Amateur side, the top amateurs from the region are in the field.  2021 Low Amateur and Men’s Player of the Year Curtis Brokenbrow will tee it up alongside Willie Mack.  Berkmeyer, who not only has won in 2006, been Low Amateur five other times.  2022 Old Warson Cup Champion Alex Locke will look to continue his fine start to the 2022 season.

“For 14 years the Metropolitan Open called St. Albans home and we are excited to be back for year 17,” remarked Curt Rohe, Executive Director of MAGA. “St. Albans has been a leader in the St. Louis area in hosting championship golf and a big reason the Metropolitan Open has grown and garnered the reputation it has with these players.”

Championship play will commence Wednesday May 18th with all competitors playing 36-holes Wednesday and Thursday before a cut is made for the Final Round Friday.  The Championship is FREE for spectators to come out and see one of the strongest fields to tee it up in St. Louis!  Groupings and starting times for Round 1 and 2 can be found at the link at the top of this page.
