27th Amateur Championship Makes Third Visit to Norwood Hills

The 27th edition of the Metropolitan Amateur Championship is set to take center stage at Norwood Hills Country Club this week.  This will mark the third trip to northside club, the first club to host the Amateur three times.

Previously, Norwood Hills hosted the regions top amateur golfers in 1999 when then member Brian Kennedy captured the title.  Then in 2008, Adam Long would outlast another Norwood member, Skip Berkmeyer to bring home the title.

“Norwood Hills CC is one of the most supportive clubs in this region for championship golf.   With the changes made to the golf course, we are excited to test the best amateurs in this region for the Jim Tom Blair Trophy!” said MAGA Executive Director Curt Rohe.

A field of 132 of the region’s best amateurs will tee it up on the 7,010 yard Par 71 layout.  Drew Pranger (pictured below) captured the 2016 title just down the street on his home course of Glen Echo CC.  Pranger is in the field this week looking to defend his title along with 5 other former champions: Jim Holtgrieve (1994); Tom Barry (1996); Bob Beckmann (2000); Skip Berkmeyer (2009) and Jimmy Siegfried (2015).

2016 MAGA Player of the Year Sam Migdal looks to continue his fine 2017 campaign.  He currently sits atop the Player of the Year Standings having captured the 2017 Old Warson Cup and MGA Stroke Play Championship.

Live scoring updates will be provided throughout the championship online at METGA.ORG.  Groupings and Starting Times for Rounds 1 and 2 are available on the website.  After 36-holes of play Thursday and Friday, the field will be cut to the low 40 scores and ties for the final round Saturday.

The Championship is free for the public to attend to see some of the best amateurs from the St. Louis Metropolitan region compete on one of St. Louis’s classic golf courses.
