The P.J. Boatwright Internship Program was created in 1991 by the USGA with the intent of providing an opportunity for experience for those interested in a career in golf administration. This program helps state and regional golf associations promote amateur golf on a short-term, entry-level basis. Interns are exposed to the behind-the-scenes action of tournament and championship preparation and execution, as well as the day-to-day work of membership services involving the USGA Handicap System. Though positions’ core responsibilities may vary between associations, based on need, Boatwright Interns are guaranteed to spend their time learning the basics of golf association administration through hands-on experience.
