Westwood Country Club to Host 35th Metropolitan Amateur Championship

St. Louis, MO - The Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association is pleased to announce the host site of the 35th Metropolitan Amateur Championship will be Westwood Country Club. This will be the club’s third time hosting this championship: first in 2002, again in 2014, and now in 2025.

Westwood Country Club has a long history of golf in St. Louis, beginning in 1907. Eleven men got together in 1907 to discuss the organization of an athletic club in the area. It was not until 1927, twenty years later, that the current grounds were purchased and then developed into the course we know. In 1928, the course opened for play. Through the next 96 years, the club has seen many changes as one could expect, but its spirit of family, friendship, and hospitality remain.

Originally designed by Harold Paddock and most recently renovated under the direction of Keith Foster, Westwood Country Club has a course that lends itself to competitive play. In 1938 the Western Open was held at the club, followed by the Women’s Western Open in 1939, and then the Western Open again in 1952. The winners of those three events? Ralph Guldahl, Helen Dettweiler, and Lloyd Mangrum respectively. This is where Westwood’s hosting of large-scale events ends, as they keep a low profile. The course, as mentioned before, has graciously hosted the Metropolitan Amateur twice. In 2002 Michael Sabo was champion, and Teddy Jones won in a playoff in 2014. Westwood has hosted a selection of USGA Championship Qualifiers through the Metropolitan as well.

As we look forward to this next edition of the championship, Metropolitan Executive Director, Curt Rohe has to say, "We are thrilled to be returning to Westwood Country Club for the 35th edition of the Metropolitan Amateur Championship! Westwood will be a fantastic test of golf for the region's top amateurs to compete for the Jim Tom Blair Trophy in August next year."

Westwood is gearing up to host once again after eleven years. The club hosted the U.S. Open Local Qualifier in early summer 2024 and are excited to open its doors to the area's best golfers in 2025. “Westwood Country Club is proud to host the 35th Annual Metropolitan Amateur Championship. We are very excited to welcome back the area’s best amateur players. Our course has never been in finer condition and we are excited to see how the field reacts to the enhancements since we last hosted this event in 2014. Please mark your calendars to attend. See you this summer!” said Westwood’s General Manager, Andy Cullinane.

The 35th Metropolitan Amateur will take place from July 31 through August 2, 2025. Registration will open on March 1, 2025 on the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association website.
