Labeur Leads the 32nd Metropolitan Women's Amateur
Alton, IL - It was a cold, crisp fall day with a northerly wind for the 32nd Metropolitan Women’s Amateur at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course. After a 3 month postponement, the ladies of the Metropolitan were able to finally come together to play. There were three divisions: Championship, Flight A, and Flight B. Flights A and B are net handicap, while the Championship is scratch. The course played to a par 72.
The Championship division took the lead for Round 1, going off first. It was a tightly contested race for much of the round between the 9:20am pairing of Ellen Port, Manon Labeur, and Ally Suhre. Manon Labeur of the Metropolitan eClub would take control of the leaderboard. Labeur made the turn at one-under (-1) par and battled on the back nine to finish the day at even (E) par. This would be enough for her to end the day on top. Ellen Port of Sunset Country Club started out strong, but found trouble on the final two holes of the front nine. Port made the turn three-over (+3) par. She would continue on to finish the day at five-over (+5) par and tied for second with fellow player Ally Suhre. Ally Suhre of the Gateway PGA Jr Golf Club took some time to find her footing, making the turn four-over (+4) par. Suhre then went on to finally get a birdie on Hole 15 to end the day at five (+5) par. Brooke Inchiostro of the USGA/MetAmateur GC is not far behind the group at eight-over (+8) par.
Things are close in the Flighted divisions as well. Barbara Dunston of Franklin County Country Club (IL) leads the pack at net five-over (+5) par in Flight A. Liz Little of Norwood Hills Country Club sits in second at net six-over (+6) par, followed by Denise Faus of the St. Louis Women’s Golf Association at net ten-over (+10) par. As for Flight B, Jillian Tedesco is in the lead with a fiery net two-under (-2) par. Maria Morrison of the St. Louis Women’s Golf Association follows behind at four-over (+4) par.
Players will return tomorrow for the second and final round of the championship beginning at 9:00 am.
