Hyten & Ackermann Lead 25th Metropolitan Junior Amateur After Round 2

Eureka, MO - The second round of the 25th Metropolitan Amateur Championship is in the books. It was a beautifully sunny day with temperatures in the high 80s at Aberdeen Golf Club. Par for the course this week is 72. Early in the day we crowned the 15 and 13 and under division champions. John DeLuca (-3) won the 15 and under division, while Houston Tiefenbrunn (+3) won the 13 and under division. Coming into Round Two, Sarah Hyten was leading the girls at two-under (-2) par and Harper Ackermann led the boys at six-under (-6) par.

The 19 and under boys began their day at 8:00am with the final pairing beginning at 10:40am. Six players shot rounds even par or better today. Matthew Delanty shot 69 and William Bomkamp shot 71 to move into a tie for ninth. Cole Packingham of Lake St. Louis came into today in second place and fought to put some pressure on Ackermann. Packingham bettered his score from yesterday to card a two-under par and bring his total to three-under (-3) par. Eric Ewing of St. Louis shot back to back 72s to sit in solo third at even (E) par. Despite the pressure from Packingham, Harper Ackermann of Webster Groves was undeterred. Ackermann came into Round 2 and backed up his Round 1 - six-under par - performance with a second round of 67, five-under (-5) par. A lip out on Hole 18 for par left him just shy of a second six-under par round. Ackermann brought his total to eleven-under (-11) par to stay at the top of the leaderboard and keep Packingham in second.

The girls began their day at 10:50am with the final group teeing off at 11:30am. Eva Brown of St. Louis carded the only round under par  for the day in this division. Brown shot 71, one-under (-1) par with seven birdies around the course. This brought Brown up to seven-over (+7) par and into third. Emma Hill of Edwardsville, IL started the day in second and kept herself in that position. Hill improved her score by two-strokes from Round 1 to Round 2 with a one-over par day. Hill’s total score of four-over (+4) par kept her securely in second place going into the final round. Sarah Hyten of Edwardsville, IL came into today with a five stroke lead. Hyten fought the whole way around today to keep her score manageable and stay on top. It took until Hoel 14 for her to find a birdie, but once she did, Hyten was able to card three birdies on the back nine. Hyten finished the day at one-over (+1) par, bringing her total to one-under (-1) par.
