Brown is Headed to the U.S. Women's Open Presented by Ally
St. Louis, MO - After a weather induced day at Sunset Country Club for the U.S. Women’s Open Qualifier on Wednesday, players returned to finish today. In contrast to the day before, the weather was perfect with the sun shining and a breeze blowing. Round 1 was stopped twice for weather delay, and the second delay left resumption before darkness improbable. For those that had not finished Round 1, they restarted their round at 7:30am. Twenty-four hours and 23 minutes after the start of Round One, the final group entered scoring. Players are vying for one qualifying spot and two alternate positions.
After the conclusion of the first round, amateur Samantha Brown of Westfield, IN sat in the lead at one-under (-1) par. The next score on the leaderboard belongs to amateur Audrey Rischer of Columbia, MO at two-over (+2) par. Tied for third are Anna Hedlund of Leksand, Sweden and amateur Kayla Benge of Plainfield, IN at three-over (+3) par.
Fifteen players survived the weather and extra day of competition to enter into Round Two. The sun was shining, but the wind gusts continued throughout the day. The wind coupled with the still wet course conditions made for another tough day on the course. Players fought for every shot and grinded to the finish. By the end of the day, Samantha Brown finished on top at eight-over (+8) par. Following behind her was amateur Addison Klonowski of Naples, Florida at nine-over (+9) par and Anna Hedlund of Leksand, Sweden at twelve-over (+12) par. This makes S. Brown the Medalist Qualifier. As an amateur, Brown is also the Low Amateur Medalist. She will be joining the Purdue Women’s Golf Team in the fall.
Samantha Brown will be headed to Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania for the U.S. Women’s Open Presented by Ally Championship from May 30 through June 2. In the event someone cannot make it to the championship, Addison Klonowski will be the first alternate and Anna Hedlund will be the second alternate.
