They each shot Even par 142 on the day.  Hughes was 1st alternate at his local qualifying and received the call from the USGA on Friday after Jay Haas withdrew from the event.  He carried his own bag for the 36 holes on  Monday as well.

The 1st alternate would then be Travis Johns, a pro from the Chicago area and 2nd alternate was Brad Hopfinger who finished at 143.

From a local perspective, Shawn Jasper had the best day of the 8 players from the St. Louis area.  Jasper had rounds of 75-72 to finish 5 shots back of the Even par number that would get in.  Jasper (@sjgolfer) would later Tweet, “Stuck to game plan all day and gave myself plenty of looks and good putts but couldn’t get them to fall #noregrets #golfishard.”

The Low Amateur for the day was Brant Peaper, from Florida but on the Indiana University golf team.  He finished 3 shots back after rounds of 69-76.
