10th East Side Amateur is a GO Despite Flooding

lockhavenEarlier in the week the playing of the 10th East Side Amateur was in jeopardy due to flooding of the Mississippi River and up the Great River Road.  However, flood waters have receded and Lockhaven is ready to host, for the first time, the East Side Amateur.  The flooding waters have not completely gone though, the 1st and 2nd Holes at Lockhaven GC are still partially underwater.

Therefore, the East Side will be conducted as a 34-hole event, two 17-hole rounds.  The 1st Putting Green was barely visible as of Friday morning yet and all the Teeing Grounds of Hole 2 were still submersed.  Hole 1 will not be played and the par 5 2nd Hole will be played as a 320 yard par 4 to start each round.  The picture above is of the 1st Green at Lockhaven when open and playable!

The rest of the golf course is in great condition and the Lockhaven staff is excited about seeing some of the areas best amateurs compete at their club.  MAGA last visited Lockhaven in 1998 when it conducted a USGA Senior Amateur Qualifying round.

While the actual par for the 17 hole round will be 67, online scoring will reflect par of 71.  Our online scoring does not adjust/allow for 17 hole rounds and thus a 4 will be put into the 1st Hole for scoring purposes.
