Open Championship kicks off Wednesday with Pro-Am

The 8th Open Championship officially kicks off tomorrow with the 2nd annual Pro-Am event at Country Club of St. Albans. 18 teams of 3 amateurs and 1 professional will enjoy an afternoon of golf and camaraderie on the Lewis & Clark Course. The day begins a Champions clinic where past champions Shawn Jasper (2010 & 2011) and Mitchell Gregson (2012) will demonstrate some of their game for the amateur field. St. Albans own touring professional Jay Delsing will emcee and play in the Pr0-Am.

Several professionals from the area as well as those visiting will take part in the Pro-Am. As we reported last week we have golf professionals from 19 states and 1 Canadian in the field. Here are a few more story lines from our professional field.

…TCU grad Drew Stoltz, has played steadily with remarkable success on the Gateway Pro Tour in Arizona. A two-time winner, Stoltz has been a top-10 machine over the course of his professional career.

Garrett Jones, a former Wisconsin Badger from the Madison area, turned pro in 2007 and has played on the NGA Hooters Tour as well as other mini tours over his professional career. He has competed on the Web.com Tour and narrowly missed advancing to the second stage of the PGA Tour Q School in 2012 by one stroke.

…Recently participating in the Bright Realty Texas State Open Qualifying, Kyler Scott, from Park City Utah, took 5th place with a score of two under par.

Brad Smith, co-founder of Private Professional Golf (PPG), has participated in various events on the 2013 PGA Tour, Latin America.

…Members of the Gateway Pro Tour, Mike Oimoen and Lucas Cromeenes played in a couple different contests this 2013 season.

…Two new professionals enter the field, both recently ending careers at their respective universities, Shawn Vanderwal Drury University, and Kyle Perry of the University of Indiana.

…Winner of the 66th Arturo Calle Colombian Open, Timothy O’Neal from Savannah, GA is playing.

Tommy Schaff, who placed 7th and 8th in the PGA National Palmer Classic and the 2013 Falls Classic at The Country Club of Lake Worth, respectivley.

Tyler Dice, from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and has family in the St. Louis and Chesterfield area.

…Playing in the Adams Pro Golf Tour Series 2013, Derek Tolan placed 4th in Buffalo Run – Prairie Moon Casino Classic at Peoria Ridge Golf Course.
