Jasper Holds 2 Shot Lead at Open

Plaza MotorsShawn Jasper, 2010 and 2011 Open champion, posted a morning round 4-under 66 to hold the lead at the 8th Open at the Country Club of St. Albans. Jasper had 4 birdies and 2 bogeys on his card to sit at 2-under on the day. Then came the 450 yard par 4 8th hole, his 17th hole of the day, where he holed out from the fairway to get it to 4-under on the day.

Three players sit 2 shots back after day 1. Chad Saladin (Rolla, MO); Chris Thompson (Lawrence, KS) and Drew Stoltz (Scottsdale, AZ) all played in the morning wave and fired 68s. The lone amateur to come in under par was Alex Cusumano at 1-under along with Sam Lyons (Myrtle Beach, SC).

Several players completed play over the 7154 yard Lewis & Clark Course at Even par, including St. Albans touring professional Jay Delsing. Delsing made 5 birdies on the day including one on his last hole, the 18th. Also in the group at Even is amateur Seth Smith who will be heading to Kansas State University this fall.

Round 2 will begin tomorrow morning at 7:30am, with the same groupings as Round 1. The field will be cut to the low 40 and ties following Round 2.
