Dolan Leads Women’s Amateur by One
Catherine Dolan, fresh off her victory in the Missouri Women’s State Championship last week, holds a one shot cushion over Ellen Port following Round 1 play today at St. Louis Country Club. Dolan got off to a very hot start this morning, making birdie at the first 3 holes to quickly get to 3-under par for the championship. However, a double-bogey at 8 and bogey at 18 would get back to Even.
Port had the exact opposite start, going bogey-bogey out of the gates on the tough CB MacDonald layout. She would then birdie the 4th, 10th and an eagle at the Par 5 14th would to get it back to Even. A bogey at the 17th would push to her a 1-over 72 going into Round 2. Kelli Kirchoff is 4 shots back after an opening round 75.
In the other handicapped flights, each flight had one golfer who finished with under par Net scores. A Flight, Peggy Shamleffer had a 69; B Flight, Debra Bene had a 4-under 67 and C Flight, Carol Amling had a 5-under 66.
The final round will be played Wednesday morning. The final grouping of Dolan, Port and Kirchoff will go off Hole 1 at 9:50am. The Jayne M. Watson Trophy pictured above is up for grabs which should lead to an exciting completion to the 21st Women’s Amateur Championship.
