Dolan Captures Women’s Amateur Title
Catherine Dolan held her lead after Round 1 to capture the 21st Metropolitan Women’s Amateur title today. She adds her name to the Jayne M. Watson Trophy along with Ellen Port, Barbara Berkmeyer and Shweta Galande, last years champion.
Dolan had rounds of 71-73 for a 3-over total at St. Louis Country Club. She continued a remarkable two week stretch in which she won the Missouri Women’s State Championship last week.
Port, who was runner-up to Dolan at Old Kinderhook last week, finished 2 shots back again at St. Louis.
There were three other flights who competed at St. Louis Country Club over the two days. Those players competed in a Net competition within their flights.
In A Flight, Maria Morrison and Peggy Shamleffer tied at 139. Morrison would win the scorecard playoff with a back 9 Net 33.
In B Flight, Debra Bene would shoot a Net 145 for 36 holes to win the flight. St. Louis CC member Carol Ann Jones would come on second.
Finally, C Flight would be won by Carol Amling who had a two round Net total of 139. Pat O’Toole was second at Evem par 142.
