Vernon, Holden co-medalist, 4 qualify for US Amateur
With temperatures on the rise this week, so was the quality of play at the US Amateur Qualifying at Norwood Hills CC. Five players completed Round 1 on Thursday under par, halfway on their venture to securing a spot in the 113th US Amateur at The Country Club in Brookline, MA August 12-18.
Fast forward to Friday afternoon and only two were under par, Carr Vernon (Poplar Bluff, MO) and Chance Holden (Dexter, MO) completed their 36 holes at 1-under 141 punching their tickets to the US Amateur. The other two of the 4 spots went to St. Louisans Tanner Bujelski and Steven Souchek at Even par 142. Soucheck led after Round 1 with a 3-under 68.
Alternate positions went to Alex Cusumano, 1st Alt at 143 and Cy Moritz (Owensville, MO) 144. Moritz would need 3 playoff holes to earn the 2nd Alt spot.
