23rd Amateur Championship field set for Persimmon Woods

Persimmon Woods GCThe field is set for the 23rd Metropolitan Amateur Championship August 1-3 at Persimmon Woods Golf Club, 137 players will compete for the Jim Tom Blair Trophy.

Five former champions are in the field, including defending champion Kyle Weldon who capture the 2012 championship at Old Warson Country Club.  He will be grouped with 2009 Champion Skip Berkmeyer and 2010 Champion Eli Grant.  They will begin play at 1:09pm from Hole 1 on Thursday.  Scott Edwards, who captured his Amateur Championship at Persimmon Woods in 2003 is back in the field, he will play with 1999 Champion Brian Kennedy and our 2012 Senior Amateur Champion Andy Frost at 8:36am from Hole 1.

Persimmon Woods hosted the 2003 Amateur Championship where, as mentioned above, Scott Edwards captured the championship in a thrilling 4 hole playoff over Shawn Jasper.  Edwards has since won 2 Senior Amateur titles with MAGA.

The full field of 137 will play Rounds 1 and 2 Thursday and Friday, then a cut to the Low 40 and ties will set the field for the Final Round on Saturday, August 3rd.  Look for more information as we approach next week’s championship.  Check out all of the Groupings and Starting Times via the Plaza Motors Scoreboard.
