WELDON FALLS BACK, MAINTAINS LEAD AFTER DAY 2
2012 champion Kyle Weldon fell back to the pack after a Round 2 73 following his opening 65. However, he maintains a 2-shot lead over 2009 champion Skip Berkmeyer heading to Saturday’s final round. Weldon was cruising along in his second round but then a double bogey at the par 3 5th and bogey at the par 5 8th capped his round at 73.
Berkmeyer followed up his opening 71 with a 1-under 69 to wrap up round 2 at Even par. Also finishing day 2 at Even par was Ted Jones, he had a 2-under round of 68 to close the day. Conditions were completely different from the morning wave to afternoon. The morning saw considerable wind and cool conditions, while the afternoon players dealt with rain for at least half of their round.
The round of the day went to Cy Moritz, who tied Weldon for low round of the championship with a 5-under 65 which vaulted him up the leader board to 1-over for the championship. Moritz round was bogey free with 5 birdies.
The final round is set to begin at 7:00am at Persimmon Woods Golf Club Saturday. 44 players survived the cut at 150, a 10-over mark. The final pairing of Weldon and Berkmeyer, who will play together all 3 rounds will go off Hole 1 at 10:09am. Live Scoring will again be available at METGA.ORG and hole-by-hole scoring of the final few groups will be used.
