Berkmeyer Wins His 6th Normandie Amateur
Skip Berkmeyer backed up his 1-under opening round with a 69 to capture his 6th Normandie Amateur title by 3 shots over Troy Halterman. Halterman and Berkmeyer were tied following day 1.
Berkmeyer and Halterman were tied thru 9 holes Sunday, each firing 1-under par on their opening 9 holes and still tied after each bogeyd the par 4 11th. However, a bogey at 12 by Halterman and birdie at 13 by Berkmeyer the lead grew to 2. Berkmeyer then eagled the par 5 15th to streatch his lead. Halterman birdied the 250 yard 18th but it was a bit late even as Berkmeyer made bogey to secure his title.
2011 champion Ted Moloney would come in solo at the 3rd spot at 146 for the weekend. 2014 Old Warson Cup champion Phil Caravia found himself solo 4th at 147.
With this victory, Berkmeyer pushes to an early Player of the Year points lead with 700, Caravia is not far behind at 550.
