John Anderson Leads 24th Amateur at Westwood
With a 3-under 68 this morning at Westwood Country Club, John Anderson (Norwood Hills CC) leads the 24th Amateur Championship at that 3-under total. Anderson at one point in the day got it to 5-under and in tie with overnight leader Patrick Riordan. A couple bogeys coming brought him back. He got off to a fast start, but then a bogey from the middle of the fairway on the par 5 5th set him back. Anderson made his way back with birdies on 6, 7, 10, 12 and 13 to get to 5-under.
Three other golfers find themselves 2 shots back to start the final round Saturday. Anderson will play in the final pairing with Joe Migdal (Aberdeen GC), they will start at 10:10am. Also at 141 is 2009 champion Skip Berkmeyer (Aberdeen GC) and Round 1 leader Patrick Riordan (Normandie GC). Berkmeyer had a 2-over 73 on day two, while Riordan struggled on the back nine to shoot 75 and finish at 1-under.
2012-2013 champion Kyle Weldon got it back in Round 2 with a 1-under round of 70. Weldon is at Even par for the championship and just three shots back going into the final round.
With the cut being 151 (+9) the final round will begin at 7:00am. Should be an exciting final round to see whose name will be ethced into the Jim Tom Blair Trophy for 2014. For all of the scoring and final pairings for Saturday, visit the Plaza Motors Scoreboard below.
