Gardiner, Trittler Take Lead in Senior Amateur
Mark Gardiner has had a tremendous summer…he has qualified for a senior major championship, US Senior Open and has been in the hunt in two other USGA championship qualifying rounds. He finds himself in the hunt again, tied with Robert Trittler after Round 1 of the 22nd Senior Amateur Championship. Each shot 2-under 69 on a fantastic Greenbriar Hills CC Thursday.
Gardiner, currently in the lead of the 2014 Senior Player of the Year points standings, and Trittler find themselves two shots clear of 2012 champion Andy Frost and David Speicher. These four will be in the battle for the George F. Meyer Trophy when the second round is played Friday. The lead group of Gardiner, Trittler and Speicher will tee off at 1:00pm.
