16-Seed Moritz Makes it to Sunday at Old Warson
A 16-seed took out the top seed in the Old Warson Cup. Cy Moritz (Sullivan CC) cruised into Sunday’s Semifinals with victories over 2014 finalists Phil Caravia and Alex Cusumano. He took down Caravia 5&3 in the morning and then Cusumano 4&3 in the afternoon. Moritz just completed his senior year at University of Central Missouri.
Moritz will face fellow CMSU Mule Teddy Jones in the first Semifinal Sunday. Jones, the 2014 Metropolitan Amateur Champion, will be facing a fellow Mule for the 3rd consecutive match Sunday. He defeated teammate Sam Migdal 3&1 and then Joe Migdal 3&1 to reach the Semifinals. Moritz and Jones will go at 7:00am Sunday.
In the second Semifinal, 5-time Match Play Champion Skip Berkmeyer reaches Sunday after defeating Buddy Allen 3&2 and then Ted Moloney 3&2 in the afternoon. Berkmeyer will find Kyle Weldon in the 2nd Semifinal at 7:10am Sunday.
Weldon reaches Sunday for the second year in a row. He took out Van Pierce 4&2 in the Round of 16 and then defeated his Kansas State University teammate Seth Smith 4&3 in the Quarterfinals.
Semifinal Matches will be played at 7:00a and 7:10a with an estimated time of 11:30am for the Final Match. Check out all Saturday’s results and Sunday’s pairings via the Plaza Motors Scoreboard link below.
