Port Cruises to 14th Women’s Amateur Title
Ellen Port finished 5-over for 36-holes at Fox Run Golf Club today, good enough for an 8-shot victory in the 23rd Metropolitan Women’s Amateur. After an opening Even par round of 72 Monday, Port posted a 5-over 77 over the tough Kern design of Fox Run. Mother Nature was not pleasant over the 2 days in Eureka, two suspensions on Monday made for a long day to get the championship started. Day 2 began with more rain early, gave way to some sun and then wrapped up just as the rain began to fall again.
Lindsey Eisenreich equaled Port’s 77 Tuesday and posted a Runner-Up finish to the Champion. Kathy Glennon had the highlight of the Championship, an Ace on the Par 3 8th Hole in Round 1.
