Annual Bragging Rights Up for Grabs in Gateway Cup Matches
The annual edition of the Pros vs. Joes will be conducted April 10-11 at The Country Club of St. Albans – Lewis & Clark Course. The Gateway Cup was brought back in 2009 to pit the areas top amateurs and top golf professionals. The amateur captured the first Cup in 2009, but since has not been able to find victory over the pros. The pros own a 4-1-1 record during that time.
Four-Ball Match Play will start the competition on Sunday morning. Captains for the squads are Skip Berkmeyer and Toz Barry co-captains for Team MAGA and Mike Tucker for Team Gateway PGA. Captains Berkmeyer and Tucker met on Thursday to pick Sunday’s Four-Ball pairings, they are:
10:30am Ryan Eckelkamp/Ryan Sullivan (MAGA) vs. Bob Gaus/Rob Sedorcek (GPGA)
10:40am Chad Niezing/Bob Hanneken (MAGA) vs. Mike Tucker/Ryan Roy (GPGA)
10:50am Skip Berkmeyer/Andy Fogarty (MAGA) vs. Brian Fogt/Jeff Whitfield (GPGA)
11:00am Sam Migdal/Chris Kovach (MAGA) vs. Brandon Veld/Shane Blankenship (GPGA)
11:10am Phil Caravia/Ted Moloney (MAGA) vs. Gideon Smith/Matt Gindler (GPGA)
11:20am Tom Barry/Tony Gumper (MAGA) vs. Scott Brauer/Ty Zimmerman (GPGA)
11:30am Scott Edwards/Scott Seibert (MAGA) vs. JC Anderson/Nash Haxel (GPGA)
Matches will continue on Monday with Foursomes in the morning and Singles Monday afternoon. Match winners earn 1 point for a win and ½ point for a halve. Follow all the results via the following link.
