Weldon Earns Medalist Honors; Five Advance to Sectional Round
Kyle Weldon played in the last group of the day, but finished on top of the leaderboard and clinched his spot on to US Open Sectional Qualifying with a 2-under 68. This will be Weldon’s fourth trip to the Sectional round.
Thomas Weaver played earlier in the day and posted a 1-under 69 which looked like would be the low round of the day until Weldon’s 68. Skip Berkmeyer, Dillon Eaton and Scott Moore all fired Even par 70’s over the 6688 yard Forest Hills Country Club to earn spots into the next round. Moore is the lone golf professional of the group to advance. All five qualifiers are native St. Louis area golfers.
Four other golfers completed play at 1-over par 71 and went to a playoff for the alternate spots. Wesley Hunter (Mobile, AL) and Scott Hamel went 7 playoff holes before earning 1st and 2nd Alternate spots respectively.
Thank you to Forest Hills Country Club for hosting the 2016 US Open Local Qualifying!
