Brant Opens With 65 to Lead at St. Albans
Chris Brant likes the Country Club of St. Albans, the 2014 Open Champion fired a 5-under 65 on Friday to take the Round 1 lead in the 2016 version. Brant started his Round 1 on the back 9 Friday and birdied Holes 11 and 13, statistically 2 of the hardest holes in Round 1. He turned at 1-under then had a trifecta of birdies on Holes 3-5 to get to -4. He capped off his round with a birdie on 18.
Brant said about the golf course, “it has dried out a lot since Thursday and the rough is really long, which is great. It’s in great shape and the greens are great, should be really great this weekend.”
Four players sit one shot back of Brant after Round 1. Garrett Sneed (Chesterfield, MO), Bobby Hudson (Memphis, TN), Dan Woltman (Beaver Dam, WI) and Michael Davan (Zionsville, IN) all had great round today at 66.
