Pranger Captures 26th Amateur Championship
Andrew Pranger birdied the 17th Hole on Saturday afternoon to take the lead heading to the home hole at Glen Echo CC. He started the day with a 3 shot cushion on the field. Playing the 17th he was tied with Tony Gumper who was in the clubhouse at 1-over for the championship and fellow Glen Echo member Darren Stoffel. He calmly rolled in his birdie putt to give him a 1 shot advantage heading to 18.
Stoffel was in the group ahead of Pranger and he posted 1-over to join Gumper in the clubhouse. Pranger played his tee shot on 18 up the right side and hit his approach hole high right of the front right hole location, but had a putt to finish off his championship. Alex Cusumano, one back as well after a great birdie at 17, found the right rough and hit a long approach shot over the green. Pranger needed just two putts to secure the win.
His first putt came up just short which he rolled in and captured the 26th Amateur Championship! Pranger adds his name to the Jim Tom Blair Trophy along with the likes of Jim Holtgrieve, David Estes, Kyle Weldon, Skip Berkmeyer and many others.
Thank you to Glen Echo Country Club for their great hospitality this past week and cooperation in conducting another MAGA championship. It is our Partner Clubs, like Glen Echo has been for so long, that allows MAGA the opportunity to conduct exemplary championships. We look forward to visiting another one of those great clubs in 2017 when the Amateur will go back to Norwood Hills Country Club for the 3rd time.
