Jeske, Niezing Earns Spots to US Mid-Amateur Monday
Kevin Jeske set the tone early with a 5-under 67 at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course on Monday and held on for medalist honors in the 2016 US Mid-Amateur Qualifying. Jeske earned one of the 2 spots available to Stonewall Links in Elverson, PA September 10-15. This is Jeske’s first USGA championship.
The 2nd spot would need overtime as Chad Niezing (pictured at left) and Matthew Cooper tied at 4-under 68. In a playoff, Niezing would earn the 2nd spot with a birdie on the 3rd playoff hole. Niezing has come close many time, but finally broke through to earn a trip to his first USGA Championship.
Matthew Cooper was 1st Alternate after the playoff and Justin Beaston would earn 2nd Alternate in 2-hole playoff with Derek Meinhart.
