MAGA Hires 3 PJ Boatwright Interns for 2017
Each season State and Regional Golf Associations around the country are fortunate enough to be a part of the PJ Boatwright Internship Grant program through the USGA. This grant allows SRGAs the opportunity to hire young men and women and give them experience to golf administration. MAGAs staff of Curt Rohe and, newly hired, Maggie Smith are Boatwright “alums”. Rohe was a Boatwright Intern with MAGA in 1998-99 and Smith spent 6-months with the Mississippi Golf Association in 2016 as a Boatwright Intern.
This year, for the first time ever, MAGA is excited to announce the hiring of 2 young men and 1 woman. As part of our collaboration with the Southern Illinois Golf Association in 2017, we are providing an intern to them for the summer.
Troy O’Donnell comes to MAGA as our 5-month intern this summer. Troy will be graduating from Lindenwood University this spring with a Bachelor Degree in Marketing with an emphasis in Sports Management. O’Donnell is originally from Canada but came to Lindenwood to play lacrosse. He is currently wrapping up an internship with the St. Louis Sports Commission and will start June 1 with MAGA. As part of Troy’s internship he will have the opportunity to travel to the USGA home in Far Hills, NJ in May for Boatwright Orientation.
Jacob Weis is the first of 2 3-month interns for 2017. Weis is a St. Louis native attending Missouri State University in Springfield, MO studying Finance and Business Management. Weis founded and plays on the Missouri State University Men’s Club Golf Team.
Lastly, Adrian Brown is our 3rd intern this summer. Brown is a student at McKendree University and plays on the Women’s Golf Team. She is a native of Carterville, IL and worked for the Southern Illinois Golf Association in 2016. She will spend a majority of her time with the SIGA at their office in Carterville assisting with SIGA business, but will also attend and assist at MAGA championships and events this summer.
