McKenna Montgomery Captures 25th Women’s Amateur
McKenna Montgomery from Old Hickory Golf Club captured the 25th Metropolitan Women’s Amateur title Friday with a 73-77-150 (+6) performance at Sunset Hills Country Club. Montgomery, playing in her first Women’s Amateur, is a sophomore at Union University in Jackson, TN. A Westminster Christian Academy product, Montgomery went to Union to play basketball; however, after discussions with the golf coach she will be playing both basketball and golf at Union this coming year. Montgomery was the co-leader after Round 1 with Kathy Glennon, both at 1-over par 73.
Starting the day 5 shots back, Kayla Eckelkamp (Franklin County CC, pictured left) shared the best round of the day with Clair Solovic with 2-over par 74. Today’s round vaulted Eckelkamp up the leaderboard into a runner-up finish with rounds of 78-74.
In the Net Championship, Nannette Baker (Norwood Hills CC) would capture the title with net rounds of 74-68-142 to best runner-up Carol Cullinane (St. Louis Women’s GA) by 8 shots. Baker and Cullinane are pictured at right.
Thank you to Sunset Hills Country Club for hosting the 25th Women’s Amateur Championship. The golf course was in fabulous condition and the players were very complimentary.
