Solovic Holds On; Kreikemeier Comes From Back to Capture Junior Titles
Claire Solovic held the overnight lead of the 18th Junior Amateur Championship by six shots, after a 1-over 73 in Thursday’s final round she extended her lead to earn the 2017 Girls’ Championship! She would eventually close out the championship with a 4-over 148 total and earn the Barbara A. Berkmeyer Trophy. Momo Kikuchi battled back in Round 2 with a 77 for Runner-up honors.
With the victory, Solovic also earns an automatic spot on the 2017 Mid-America Junior Cup which will travel to Kansas City in October to compete against the KCGA.
In the Boy’s Championship, Max Kreikemeier fired the low round of the championship, a 4-under 68 to come from 2 shots back of Round 1 leader Matt Hoemann for the title. Kreikemeier, a Forest Hills CC member, finished at 3-under 141 for the championship. Max earns the James M. Holtgrieve Trophy and also a spot on the 2017 Mid-America Junior Cup Team.
In the Boys 11-13 Division, Ryan Mooney (Algonquin GC) would edge Luke McLaughlin (Bellerive CC) by 2 for the title. These two co-lead after Round 1 with matching 88’s. Mooney would fire a Round 2 86 to earn the title.
Lastly, in the Boys 14-15 Division, Curt Hastie (Sunset CC), held on after an opening round of 1-under 71 to capture the title. His Round 2 77 was matched by Jack Cronin (Persimmon Woods GC), but enough for the 7-shot victory.
