Buente, Migdal Cruise to U.S. Amateur Spots

Blaine Buente and Sam Migdal cruised to 2 of the 3 spots available at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course July 17-18.  Migdal led after Round 1 with a 4-under  68 with Buente 1 shot back and the two would play in the final grouping Tuesday.  Buente would turn in the low round of the two days with a 5-under 67 on Tuesday to earn medalist honors at 8-under 136 over 36-holes.  Migdal followed up with a 69 to finish one shot back of Buente at 137.  However, the spots into the 2017 U.S. Amateur are always the prize of a USGA qualifier.

The 3rd spot would take a little extra time as three finished at 3-under 141.  Crimson Callahan, Brad Carpenter and Wesley Hunter would embark on extra holes in the sweltering heat.  Playing Hole 1 and 18 for the playoff, the 3 would tie the first 3 holes.  Callahan would bow out after a bogey on 18 to earn the 2nd Alternate.

Carpenter and Hunter would continue to 1 and 18, the third time.  This third time Hunter would make par after a wayward tee shot from Carpenter to earn the 3rd qualifying spot.

The 2017 U.S. Amateur will be played at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, CA August 14-20.  For all of the the scores from the qualifier visit the link below.
