Jasper Only Golfer Subpar After Round 2, Leads 27th Amateur
Shawn Jasper came close to capturing the Amateur Championship back in 2003, losing a playoff to Scott Edwards at Persimmon Woods Golf Club. Fast forward 14 years after a great career at the University of Missouri and time out on the professional ranks including a full year on the Web.com Tour and he is in position to put his name on the Jim Tom Blair Trophy.
After opening with a 1-under 70 Thursday, Jasper followed up his opening round with an Even par 71 Friday. Starting on the front 9 Friday he would get off to a great start considering the conditions were tougher with a lot of wind and gusts reaching 20+ miles per hour. He would turn at 2-under for the day and -3 for the championship. Bogeys at 12 and 13 would get him back to level, but a birdie (Hole 15) and bogey (Hole 16) would make it in at Even par on the day at 1-under for the championship.
Jasper will play in the final pairing with Round 1 leader Jimmy Siegfried. Siegfried played in the morning Friday when the winds were kicking up at the worst for the day. Siegfried would struggle on the day with a 78 after opening with the stellar 65 (-6) on Thursday. However, the 2015 Amateur Champion is just two back in the final pairing with Jasper.
The cut was made at 155 (+13) on Friday evening on the number with 40 players surviving the cut. Final Round pairings will start at 7:00a with the final pairing going off at 10:10am.
