Fogarty Medalist, Thomas Wins Playoff to Advance to U.S. Senior Amateur

Andy Fogarty fired the low round of the day of 72 (1-over) to earn medalist honors and one of the two qualifying spots available Monday into the 2017 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship.  This will be Fogarty’s first Senior Amateur.  The 2017 U.S. Senior Amateur will be played August 26-31 at The Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, MN.

A tie at 73 would send Scott Thomas and Terrence Flynn to a playoff for that final spot.  Thomas would make a par on the 1st playoff hole to grab that second spot.  A Minnesota native, Thomas will return to his home state to compete in his first U.S. Senior Amateur.  Flynn earned the 1st Alternate spot.

The 2nd Alternate would also be decided by a playoff.  Four scores of 74 were posted; however, Mark Allenspach and Steve Spaulding were the only two to stick around.  Spaulding were earn that 2nd spot with a par on the first playoff hole.

All the scores from Monday’s qualifying round are available at the link below.
