2017 Mid-America Junior Cup Team Selections

MAGA will travel to Shadow Glen Golf Club in Olathe, KS October 21-22 to participate in the annual Mid-America Junior Cup Matches against the Kansas City Golf Association.  KCGA kept the cup for the fourth consecutive years in 2016, winning 5-3 at St. Louis Country Club.  MAGA owns a slight overall lead in the series with an 8-7-2 mark over the 17 years of competition.

The Mid-America Junior Cup began in 1999 as an effort to showcase the top juniors from each Associations respective regions.  The event was created to foster camaraderie and sportsmanship between MAGA and KCGA.

The 2017 MAGA team is comprised of the following standout Juniors from the St. Louis region:

Boys:
Max Kreikemeier: 2017 MAGA Junior Champion, Lafayette HS (2019)

Tommy Alferman: 2016 MAGA Junior Champion, St. Francis Borgia Regional HS (2018)
Jack Cronin: Marquette HS (2020)
Tyler Linenbroker: Marquette HS (2021)
Girls:
Shannon Gould: 2016 St. Louis Post-Dispatch Player of the Year, MICDS (2018)
Lacey Snell: 2016 1st Team All-Metro Selection; Northwest HS (2018)

Claire Solovic: 2017 MAGA Junior Champion, Seckman HS (2020)
Brooke Biermann: 2016 MAGA Junior Champion, Lafayette HS (2021)

The format for the two days of competition is very unique for juniors.  Play will begin on Saturday, October 21 with Four-Ball Match Play (boys vs. boys; girls vs. girls).  On Sunday, October 22 they will play Foursomes (Alternate Shot) and be mixed teams of boys and girls.  Each match is worth 1 point for a win and 1/2 point for a tie.  MAGA needs 4.5 points to bring the cup back to St. Louis.
