2018 MAGA Championship Schedule
St. Louis, MO – The Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association has another fantastic slate of venues for its 2018 championship schedule. MAGA will kick off the season with the Old Warson Cup, the Association’s annual match play championship held annually at Old Warson Country Club May 5-6 where the Top 16 players from the 2017 Player of the Year Standings compete. Two-time defending champion Sam Migdal has earned the #1 Seed as the 2017 Men’s Player of the Year.
In 2017, MAGA moved the Metropolitan Open Championship to June where it will stay in 2018. The Country Club of St. Albans, annual host for 12 years, will welcome golf professionals from across the country to compete again for a $25,000 first prize June 6-8. In August, the top amateurs from the region will tackle the Lewis & Clark Course as St. Albans will play host to the 28th Metropolitan Amateur Championship. St. Albans hosted the Amateur once previously in 1994 when Jim Holtgrieve captured his Amateur title. Shawn Jasper will defend his title where he twice hoisted the James Manion Trophy as the Open Champion.
The ladies will visit Sunset Country Club June 20-21 to compete in the 26th Women’s Amateur Championship. This will be the second visit to the South County club, where in 2006 Ellen Port captured the title. McKenna Montgomery is the defending champion having won the title at Sunset Hills Country Club in 2017. Area juniors will visit Forest Hills Country Club July 16-17 to compete in the 19th Junior Amateur Championship. Max Kreikemeier and Claire Solovic captured the Boys and Girls Championships respectively in 2017.
St. Louis area Seniors will have the opportunity to compete at Persimmon Woods Golf Club August 27-28 in the 26th Senior Amateur Championship. Jim Holtgrieve would win the 2017 title at Westborough Country Club. The Four-Ball Championship will make its way to Old Hickory Golf Club October 12. Michael Fowler and Nick Profancik would earn the Open title at Algonquin Golf Club in 2017, while Larry Laramie and Doug Williams captured the Net title in a playoff.
The 32nd Normandie Amateur will be contested in its annual slot the weekend before Memorial Day Weekend, May 19-20. While the East Side Amateur will make a move to July with the Open staying in June. The East Side will be July 14-15 at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course.
The Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association conducts ten (10) championships, ten (10) USGA qualifying rounds and its Amateur Series of events each season. MAGA provides the USGA GHIN Handicap Service to 140 member clubs across the St. Louis region and Southern Illinois.
