Justin Bryant Drops Open Record 62 to Lead Day 1
The morning of the first round of the Metro Open saw plenty of low scoring, including the lowest scoring round in Metro Open history.
Justin Bryant, from Kirkwood, MO jumped out to an early lead shooting a 62 (-9) in his first round. Bryant said he was battling a little bit of sickness and that might have helped him find his groove.
“I’m actually fighting a little sickness right now,” Bryant said. “I think that probably helped me today because I was trying to stay alive.”
Bryant later said he doesn’t need to change much heading into the second round tomorrow.
Three shots back of Bryant is another local product, Shane Smith from Godfrey, IL. Smith had a blistering back 9 (he started on Hole 10) with a 7-under 29 which included a hole-out eagle on 8. He finished at 65 (-6) to start his Metropolitan Open.
Jordan Russell, from Bryant, TX finds himself one back of Smith after opening with a 66 (-5). Two other golfers sit at 4-under to start the championship, David Cooke, from Bolingbrook, IL and Ryan Sullivan, from Winston Salem, NC. Sullivan finished T-2 in the 2017 Open.
The low amateur after Round 1 is Jimmy Siegfried who posted a 1-under 70.
The Championship continues with Round 2 Thursday from the Country Club of St. Albans. A cut to the Low 40 scores and ties will be made after Round 2.
