Halfway Through Round 2 of Open, Bryant Holds 4 Shot Lead
The morning of the second round saw some higher scores than it did on Wednesday as only a few people were able to help their score.
Justin Bryant’s -9 score would still hold up after the morning tee times, but it did not stay easily. Shane Smith , from Godfrey, Illinois, was able to advantage of getting out early as he was able to lead the championship for a few holes at -10.
Smith struggled on the final few holes of the course as he posted a 72 (+2) for the day and sits in third at -5. He said the key to the round was good ball striking.
“I hit a lot more fairways and a lot more greens, and out here once the wind picks up and it starts to firm up you have to be smart and put the ball in the middle of the green,” Smith said.
Brad Fritsch, from Holly Springs, North Carolina, bettered his score by shooting a 68 (-3) to bring him to -1 on the day. Fritsch said the greens were easier to manage today.
“The greens were a little softer today,” Fritsch said. “We played in the afternoon yesterday, some of them started to dry out yesterday. You could kind of throw it at the hole today.”
The round also saw Warren Crow, from St. Louis, Missouri shoot a 70 (-1) to gain a shot for even par on the tournament. He is currently sitting as the low amateur and said he was just out there trying to have fun.
“I mean don’t get me wrong, I love golf and everything’s great, but the scenery is beautiful,” Crow said.
Bryant is out on the course right now as he is shooting -1 and has brought his total score up to -10 for the championship.
