Stoffel Hangs On to Win the East Side
Darren Stoffel and Chris Kovach have met previously in a head-to-head battle at the 2016 Griesdedieck Championship quarterfinals that Kovach came away with a 19 Hole victory. They went at it again today in Round 2 of the 15th East Side Amateur at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course. Starting the day tied at 7-under, they went back and forth with several two shot swing throughout. Kovach struck early, birdieing the first 2 holes to get to 9-under.
Then the back-and-forth started and it came down to the 18th hole. Tied playing the par 3 16th, Kovach rolled in a 20 footer to gain the lead back by one. However, Stoffel birdied the par 4 17th to square things back up. A bogey on 18 by Kovach and 2-putt par by Stoffel sealed the final result and Stoffel came away with the victory.
Buddy Allen finished as low Senior, firing 2-under for the weekend. For all of the results of the 15th East Side Amateur, click here.
