Berkmeyer Tops Field On Day 1 of Metropolitan Amateur
Skip Berkmeyer fired a 3-under 68 on Thursday to lead the 28th Amateur Championship at The Country Club of St. Albans. The 2009 champion teed off in the morning wave of Round 1 in what definitely the prime conditions of the day.
Kyle Szyhowski and Matt McCarthy find themselves 1 back of Berkmeyer after rounds of 69. Szyhowski played in the morning Thursday, while McCarthy was in the final grouping of the day. The afternoon wave had to sit through a 1 hour and 10 minute weather delay as a thunderstorm pushed through St. Albans.
Four others found their way around St. Albans under par in Round 1. 2016 champion Drew Pranger, along with Ryan Sullivan, Crimson Callahan and Josh Kleinheider had rounds of 70.
