Seniors Set to Contend for George F. Meyer Trophy at Persimmon Woods

The over 50 crowd will descend on Persimmon Woods Golf Club August 28-29 to play in the 26th Metropolitan Senior Amateur Championship.  The Senior Amateur is open to all golfers 50 and over who are MAGA members.

The George F. Meyer Trophy will be contested by 48 golfers from the area over 36-holes on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Defending champion Jim Holtgrieve is in the field looking to join Don Duspke as the only seniors to capture the title 3 or more times.  Dupske dominated the MAGA Senior winning 4 times from 1996-2000.

Buddy Allen looks to continue his very hot 2018 season.  Allen is coming off his win at the STLDGA Cassett Senior a week ago and also recently qualified for the 2018 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.  Allen has a significant lead in the 2018 MAGA Senior Player of the Year standings heading into the Senior Amateur.  Allen and Holtgrieve will play together in Round 1 Tuesday.

Other former Senior Amateur Champions in the field include: Jim Dunn (2005), Holtgrieve (2007, 2017), Scott Edwards (2009, 2011), Andy Frost (2012) and Jeff Johnson (2013).

The rest of the field will played 36-holes within several Age Divisions.  Competitors will compete for Low Gross and Low Net honors within those Age Divisions.  Follow along over the next couple days to see who comes out on top holding the George F. Meyer Trophy on Wednesday evening.  Click the link below for all of the Groupings and Scoring from Persimmon Woods GC.
