2019 Metropolitan Championship Schedule
St. Louis, MO – The Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association has another fantastic slate of venues for its 2019 championship schedule. MAGA will kick off the season with the Old Warson Cup, the Association’s annual match play championship held annually at Old Warson Country Club May 4-5 where the Top 16 players from the 2018 Player of the Year Standings compete. 2018 Amateur and Old Warson Cup Champion Drew Pranger earned the Player of the Year last and will be the #1 Seed in 2019!
The Amateur Championship will return to a public venue for the first time since 2001, Aberdeen Golf Club will host the 29th Amateur Championship. The Amateur Championship was founded in 1991 in an effort for public course golfers and private club golfers to compete on one playing field. Aberdeen’s General Manager, Greg Jansen stated “We are extremely honored and excited to be hosting the 29th Metropolitan Amateur Championship. Knowing that Aberdeen will be the 3rd public facility to host this great Championship makes it even more special.”
The Metropolitan Open Championship will remain in June for 2019. The Country Club of St. Albans, annual host for 13 years, will welcome golf professionals from across the country to compete again for a $25,000 first prize June 5-7.
The ladies will visit Gateway National Golf Links June 17-18 to compete in the 27th Women’s Amateur Championship. This will be the second visit to the Illinois club, in 2001 Ellen Port captured the title at Gateway. Area juniors will return to a special venue July 1-2 to compete in the 20th Junior Amateur Championship. The Bogey Club is truly a special place on Clayton Road where it also hosted the Junior in 2015. Zach Walsh and Alyssa McMinn captured the Boys and Girls Championships respectively in 2018.
St. Louis area Seniors will also cross the river to Annbriar Golf Club August 26-27 in the 27th Senior Amateur Championship. Buddy Allen capped off a remarkable 2018 campaign winning the George F. Meyer Trophy in 2018. The Four-Ball Championship venture out to Franklin County Country Club in Washington, MO September 22-23. The Four-Ball will also expand to a 36-hole championship in 2019.
The 33rd Normandie Amateur will be contested in its annual slot the weekend before Memorial Day Weekend, May 18-19. While the East Side Amateur will remain in July at Spencer T. Olin over the July 13-14 weekend.
As we announced late in 2018, MAGA will introduce the Metropolitan 9-Hole Championship on Saturday, June 29 at Ballwin Golf Club. This championship will be open to men, women, juniors and seniors, a championship for everyone! Lastly, the season long Thomas O. Sobbe, Jr. Cup matches will conclude with its “Final Four” at Lake Forest Country Club September 20th.
Entries for all MAGA championships will open on March 1, 2019. Golfers who are members of MAGA, have an active GHIN Handicap number through MAGA are eligible to participate in MAGA championships and Amateur Series.
The Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association conducts eleven (11) championships, nine (9) USGA qualifying rounds and its Amateur Series of events each season. MAGA provides the USGA GHIN Handicap Service to 140 member clubs across the St. Louis region and Southern Illinois.
