Ferris Medalist; Callahan and 3 Professionals Advance in US Open First Stage
Chris Ferris fired the lone subpar round Monday to capture medalist honors and one of the 5 spots available in U.S. Open First Stage Qualifying at Fox Run Golf Club. Ferris’ 1-under par 70 advances him to the Sectional stage on June 3rd.
Four others had Even par rounds of 71 to clinch the remaining spots. Included in that list was Crimson Callahan who continued his fine play from winning the Old Warson Cup over the weekend. Ferris and Callahan were the only amateurs to advance.
Locally, Collin Neeman (Columbia, IL) moves on with his Even par round. Wrapping up the spots were Carr Vernon (Poplar Bluff, MO) and Kevin Lucas (Guntersville, AL).
A six-way tie at 1-over 72 would play off for the alternate spots. Rico Hoey and Wesley Hunter came from that group to garner 1st and 2nd Alternates respectively.
Fox Run Golf Club played to 7212 yards, Par 71 on the day. U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying will take place at 10 sites around the country on Monday June 3rd. Full field results can be found below.
