Bullington, White Lead Open After Day 1
Brian Bullington (Frankfort, IL) and Brett White (Caledonia, MI) open up Round 1 of the 14th Metropolitan Open Wednesday with 6-under 65s. Bullington birdied 4 in a row from Holes 2 to 6 to open his round and set a torrid pace. He finished his round with 8 birdies and 2 bogeys for his 65.
White did his damage on the front 9, beginning with Eagle on Hole 2 and 3 more birdies to finish at 31 on the much more scoring friendly front 9. He bookend a bogey on 11 with birdies then would par out to complete his 65.
One shot back at 66 is Chris Naegel (Wildwood, MO) and James Nitties (Australia). Thirty-nine players found themselves under par on Day 1.
On the amateur side, Reilly Ahearn leads in that category with an opening 2-under 69. 2006 Open Champion Skip Berkmeyer had an Even par round on the day.
