Two Rounds Complete at St. Albans, Tie at Top with Stacked Leaderboard
36 holes are complete at The Country Club of St. Albans and we have a tie at 7-under heading to Friday. Emerson Newsome (Dacula, GA) and Ryan Sullivan (Winston Salem, NC) sit atop the 14th Metropolitan Open leaderboard with a one shot advantage over 5 others. Newsome, who opened with 70 on Wednesday, had the low round of Day 2 65 to get to the top of the leaderboard.
Sullivan, who qualified on Monday in Maryland to play in the U.S. Open next week at Pebble Beach Golf Links, had rounds of 67-68 to get to his 7-under total.
However, the leaderboard heading to Friday is extremely tight. The cut was made at Even par (142), so only 7 shots separate the top and bottom of the board. Five others sit one shot back at 136, including local Chris Naegel (Wildwood, MO) who had rounds of 66-70. The other 4 at 136 include Stuart Thomas (Surprise, AZ), Hayden Wood (Edmond, OK), Julian Taylor (Fulton, MO) and Ian Snyman (Denton, TX). Wood is making his professional debut after completing his career at Oklahoma State University just a couple weeks ago.
The only amateur to make the cut is Reilly Ahearn (St. Louis, MO). Ahearn just complete his sophomore year at University of Missouri-St. Louis who made it to the NCAA Division II National Championship. He had rounds of 69-70 for a 3-under total.
Newsome and Sullivan will be in the final pairing Friday morning going off Hole 1 at 10:10am with starting times beginning at 7:00am. The professionals will be playing for a final purse of $105,000 with $25,000 going to the champion of the 14th Metropolitan Open!
