MAGA Collaborates with Area Programs to Bring Youth on Course to More Juniors

Gateway PGA Junior Golf and Golf Foundation of Missouri Join Youth on Course

St. Louis, MO – The Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association is excited to collaborate with Gateway PGA Junior Golf and the Golf Foundation of Missouri to provide their program participants the benefits of Youth on Course.

In 2018, MAGA became a Youth on Course organization for this region, joining 30 other regions providing Youth on Course to junior golfers.  This includes over 1,200 courses and over 50,000 individual members to date.  Youth on Course provides junior golfers access to golf for $5 or less at the over 1,200 participating courses.  Youth on Course is not a tournament program, it is simply giving juniors access to play golf at participating facilities at reasonable prices.

Curt Rohe, MAGA Executive Director added, “Youth on Course is a national initiative that we brought to the St. Louis region to provide access to golf courses at extremely reasonable prices.  We have a long-standing relationship with the Gateway PGA, to collaborate with them and bring the Golf Foundation of Missouri into the fold, Youth on Course just strengthens the relationship between the two leading organizations in this region!”

The collaboration with Gateway PGA Junior Golf and Golf Foundation of Missouri will provide the juniors in their respective programs access to sixteen (16) facilities in the St. Louis and Southern Illinois regions.  And we are adding facilities all the time to bring more opportunities to these youth.

“We are excited to partner with MAGA and the Youth on Course initiative as it speaks directly to the mission of the Gateway PGA Professionals: growing the game of golf.  We look forward to helping this initiative grow to impact even more kids across the Greater St. Louis area,” said Ali Wells, Gateway PGA Section Executive Director.

Juniors between the ages of 6-18 are eligible and can join directly through the MAGA website (http://www.metga.org/youth-on-course/) if not a part of these other youth programs.  Members receive a Membership Card with GHIN Number, which acts as their membership number and teaches the value of having a USGA Handicap Index.  Members must call a Youth on Course facility to schedule a tee time at the times available for Youth on Course.

Andrew Belsky, Golf Foundation of Missouri Executive Director says: “The opportunities provided by the Youth on Course program is something that has been missing for our campers.  Each day we provide youth from the City of St. Louis instruction and guidance, but the missing piece has been a place for the kids to play after their time with us.  Thanks to our relationship with Youth of Course and MAGA our efforts to turn the kids into full-fledged golfers can now be realized.”

The Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association conducts ten (10) championships, ten (10) USGA qualifying rounds and its Amateur Series of events each season.  MAGA provides the USGA GHIN Handicap Service to 140 member clubs across the St. Louis region and Southern Illinois.  Additionally, MAGA is the regional authority on the Rules of Golf and Amateur Status.  For more information, visit www.metga.org.
