Goldenstein Captures 27th Women’s Amateur Title

First Player to Have Name on Girls’ Junior and Women’s Amateur Trophies

Emily Goldenstein fired a 2-under par 69 on Tuesday to capture the 27th Metropolitan Women’s Amateur title at Gateway National Golf Links.  After opening with an Even par 71, Goldenstein posted the only subpar round over 2 days to win the Jayne M. Watson Championship Trophy by 5 shots over 16-time champion Ellen Port.  Rounds of 71-69 would be enough to capture the title.  Having captured the 2012 Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship, Goldenstein is the first to have her name on the Barbara A. Berkmeyer and Jayne M. Watson Trophies.

With 5 birdies on the scorecard in Round 2, Goldenstein never saw her lead dissipate the entire day.  A couple hiccups coming in on Holes 16 and 17 brought her back a touch, but a closing birdie on the par 5 18th would seal the victory for the Parkway West and University of Memphis alum.  She has her sights set on the 2019 Missouri Women’s Amateur Championship in a few weeks, also being played here in St. Louis.  She is the defending champion in that event.

Port, who started the day alone in 3rd place would have an Even par round of 71 on Tuesday to move up a spot and capture the Runner-up silver.

In the Net Championship, Vickie Ressler (Meadowbrook CC) would capture the winning crystal with a Net score of 75-68-143 (+1) and Josephine Green (St. Louis Women’s Golf Association) came in Runner-up at 151.

Many thanks to all the ladies for participating in the 27th Women’s Amateur.  For all the scores from Gateway National Golf Links, check out the scoreboard below.
