Biermann Medalist; Bloomstran Round out Local U.S. Junior Amateur Qualifiers
Alex Gentry Advances to Boy’s Junior Amateur
Brooke Biermann continues to impress on the local golf scene, advancing to her first U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship Tuesday at Quincy Country Club. Biermann has been an alternate on a couple occasions but now adds a USGA Championship to her already impressive resume. She did so with being the only competitor to break 80 with a 6-over par 77 at Quincy.
Quincy CC was, as always, a stern test for the 17 girls to tee it up in the qualifier. While the yardage of Quincy CC always gets reactions to its playability, the putting greens and condition of the Illinois gem far exceeds players expectations. Perfect playing conditions, mixed with a very swirling wind on Tuesday led to a difficult test.
Lucy Bloomstran would earn the 2nd qualifying spot on Tuesday. She survived a 4-hole playoff with Nicole Rallo to earn a spot in the USGA championship. The 2019 U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur will be played July 22-27 at SentryWorld in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
Thirty-five boys also teed it up at Quincy on Tuesday in hopes of grabbing one spot to the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur. Alex Gentry (Jefferson City, MO) and Yu-Ta Tsai (Chinese Taipei) shot 1-over par 72 to force a playoff for the lone spot. Tsai, has signed to play at University of Missouri next season. Gentry and Tsai would go to the 300 yard opening hole at Quincy CC where Gentry would make a par, while Tsai a bogey to earn the spot.
The 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will be played at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio July 15-20. For all of Tuesday’s results, click on the link below.
