Three Punch Tickets to U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst
Three individuals successfully punched tickets to the 2019 U.S. Amateur Championship August 12-18 at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C. Skip Berkmeyer was the only local of the trio to successfully navigate around Meadowbrook Country Club for 36-holes to move on to his 2nd consecutive U.S. Amateur. Berkmeyer had rounds of 72-72-144 (Even) to gain the 3rd spot.
John Marshall Butler from Paducah, K.Y. earned the medalist honors with a 4-under par performance with rounds of 71-69-140. Butler, who will be a senior in high school this fall, was named Mr. Golf for the state of Kentucky in 2018 high school season has been busy. He is headed to the 2019 PGA Junior Championship next week and then on to the Junior Player’s Championship at TPC Sawgrass, while trying to fit some school in between his travels, said his father.
Jacob Eklund from Carbondale, I.L. was the 2nd qualifier with rounds of 71-71-142 (-2). Eklund will be a senior at Kansas State University this fall and moves on to the U.S. Amateur. For all of the qualifying scores, click the link below.
