Eight Players Round Out Day 1 Under Par
Ryan Eckelkamp played a bogey free round of golf on Thursday to open his 29th Amateur Championship at Aberdeen Golf Club. Eckelkamp’s five birdies on the day put him into the lead after Round 1. “It was one of those easy rounds of golf, it was fun I enjoyed it,” stated Eckelkamp adding, “I missed one fairway and two greens, just solid golf tee to green.”
One shot back of Eckelkamp is Aberdeen’s own Chris Ferris who came in with a 4-under 67. Ferris had 8 birdies on his card on Thursday to go with 4 bogies. Ferris has grown up at Aberdeen and commented on that, “it’s been like a family experience out here. I’ve been coming here since I was 11 or 12 and Greg, Rockney and the crew have been awesome to me and part of where I am at today!”
While Eckelkamp and Ferris played in the afternoon wave on Thursday, Sean Brennan had the low round of 68 (3-under) in the morning wave. “Course was in great condition, very little wind and the greens were great. I kept in in the fairway and hit a lot of greens,” said Brennan on his opening round.
Five others finished Round 1 under par in Round 1 for a total of 8 players under par on the day. Round 2 will go Friday morning at 7:30a with a cut to the low 40 scores and ties to play on Saturday in the Final Round. For all of Thursday’s scores and Round 2 starting times, click on the link below.
