Jacob Eklund Wins the 17th East Side Amateur in Dramatic Fashion
Coming into the 18th hole on the final day of the East Side Amateur, Jacob Eklund was tied at six under par with fellow competitor Adam Pfeiffer and one stroke in front of playing partner Joe Migdal. After watching Migdal hit his second shot on the par-5 to just over ten feet for an eagle try, Eklund stepped up to the challenge and knocked one in to fifteen feet himself. Eklund would be first to put knowing that if he missed his eagle try, Migdal would be able to force a tie with a one-putt for an eagle. Eklund didn’t even give Migdal a chance as he walked in the eagle put from fifteen feet to secure a first-place finish at eight under par for the two day tournament. Migdal would miss his eagle putt, but still make birdie to finish tied for second place with Pfeiffer at six under par.
In the senior division, Joseph Malench would shoot a two under 69 to tie competitor Brian Lovett who led after the first day of play. In a playoff, Malench would make par on the first playoff hole to beat out Lovett and take home first place in the East Side Amateur senior division.
