Sharamitaro opens with 5-under 67 to lead after Round 1
30th AMATEUR SCORING | ROUND 2 STARTING TIMES
Joe Sharamitaro, from Tapawingo National GC, leads the 30th Amateur Championship after firing an impressive 5-under 67 over the stern Meadowbrook CC layout. After his round, Sharamitaro remarked he “kept in play and putts were falling today. The par 4s I was able to get it close and make some putts.” This is just Joe’s second go at the Metropolitan Amateur having last played in the early 2000s.
Two back of Sharamitaro is Chris Kovach. Kovach had a flawless round going on the day with 6 birdies through 14 holes. However, the closing 3-hole stretch at Meadowbrook is one of the toughest in town and Kovach made bogeys on that stretch to finish with 69.
Opening with 2-under par 70s is Drew Pranger, the 2016 and 2018 Amateur Champion and Chris Ferris. Ferris had two highlights to his round, holing out from the fairway for Eagle on the Par 4 3rd and Par 5 6th holes.
The last two of six golfers who finished under par in Round 1 were Chad Niezing and Sam Migdal at 1-under 71.
Players will go to Round 2 Friday in hopes of surviving the cut, which will be the Low 40 scores and ties to play Saturday. For all of Thursday’s scoring and Round 2 starting times click on the links above.
